Le Lord Chancelier de Grande-Bretagne (Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain ou Lord Chancellor en anglais) est l’un des plus importants hauts fonctionnaires du gouvernement du Royaume-Uni. En tant que Grand Officier d’État, il est nommé par le monarque britannique sur conseil du Premier ministre. La coutume veut qu’il soit toujours un Lord, bien qu’il n’existe aucun obstacle légal à la désignation d’un roturier.
Les responsabilités du Lord Chancelier sont vastes : elles incluent la présidence de la Chambre des Lords, la participation au cabinet ministériel et la supervision du pouvoir judiciaire. Les critiques concernant l’étendue de ces pouvoirs ont conduit le Premier ministre Tony Blair à proposer l’abolition de cette fonction : une réforme constitutionnelle de 2005 a pour conséquence de transférer une large part de pouvoir à d’autres personnages institutionnels comme le Lord Speaker.
