Make Poverty History était une coalition britannique d'organisations caritatives, religieuses, de syndicats et de célébrités créée en 2005, et fondée sur les principes suivants :

- Annulation de la Dette du tiers monde

- Soutien concret aux pays défavorisés

- Mise en place d'un système de commerce équilibré entre pays riches et pays pauvres.

Le symbole de la campagne était un bandeau en coton portant le mot poverty (pauvreté).Il existait aussi des bandeaux virtuels pour les sites personnels sur internet[réf. souhaitée]

La campagne était liée aux priorités du gouvernement britannique, notamment à la présidence du G8 et de l'Union européenne, et à la commission de l'Afrique[réf. insuffisante] Cela montre les opinions du premier ministre Tony Blair (1997-2007) en ce qui concerne les pays en voie de développement[réf. insuffisante]

Make Poverty History a constitué un mouvement important dans les médias : Le 2 juillet 2005, près de 225 000 personnes manifestent à Edimbourg ( BBC News). L'exemple de l'émission spéciale du The Vicar of Dibley, écrit et realisé par Richard Curtis, est souvent cité.


Des événements ont été organisés partout en Grande Bretagne. À Édimbourg, un concert a été organisé pour promouvoir l'engagement et augmenter la pression politique. En France, Sail 8 déstination Cherbourg a encouragé les protestations et les manifestations.
