Matthew Boulton (3 septembre 1728, Birmingham18 août 1809), industriel britannique.

Il seconda James Watt, l'inventeur de la machine à vapeur, fabriqua pour lui la première machine et créa les usines de Soho, près de Birmingham. Boulton est devenu membre de la Royal Society le 24 novembre 1785.

Il fut aussi l'un des piliers de la Lunar Society qui réunissait des industriels, des inventeurs et des scientifiques. Parmi ceux qui assistaient plus ou moins régulièrement aux réunions figuraient aussi, Erasmus Darwin, Samuel Galton Junior, James Keir, Joseph Priestley, Josiah Wedgwood, James Watt, John Whitehurst et William Withering.

Il fut très impliqué dans l'aventure des tokens, monnaies de faible valeur non officielles.
