L'Abaca (Musa textilis) est une espèce de bananier originaire des Philippines qui pousse aussi à Bornéo et à Sumatra. Elle a une importance typiquement économique, étant récoltée pour sa fibre, appelée chanvre de Manille, extraite des larges, oblongues feuilles et tiges. En moyenne, cette plante croît jusqu'à environ 6 m de hauteur. La fibre est utilisée pour fabriquer des ficelles et des cordes. Le nom de la plante est parfois écrit « abaka ». Elle fut cultivée initialement à grande échelle à Sumatra en 1925 par les Hollandais, qui en avaient observé la culture aux Philippines visant à la fabrication de cordage.

Le nom vernaculaire provient de l'espagnol Abacá.
