Apollonios de Rhodes
Apollonios de Rhodes, en grec Ἀπολλώνιος / Apollốnios (Alexandrie, 295-215 av. J.-C.), poète et grammairien grec.
Disciple de Callimaque de Cyrène, il compose une longue épopée, les Argonautiques, qui s'éloigne des enseignements de son maître et vise à se rapprocher de la simplicité homérique. Rejeté par Callimaque, il s'exile à Rhodes où il fonde une école de rhétorique. En même temps, il retravaille son poème. Rentré à Alexandrie, il connaît le succès et Ptolémée V Épiphane le nomme directeur de la bibliothèque d'Alexandrie, en succession d'Ératosthène.
Les Argonautiques étaient très appréciées des Romains, et ont été une source d'inspiration notamment pour Valerius Flaccus.
