New Man

New Man est une société française spécialisée dans la confection, créée en 1967 et implantée dans la région de Cholet (Maine-et-Loire), d'où est originaire Jacques Jaunet, un de ses fondateurs. Elle possède aujourd’hui 60 boutiques à enseigne en France et 90 à l’étranger. Elle est également présente en multimarques et en grands magasins comme aux Galeries Lafayette et au Printemps en France.

Historique

En 1967, deux jeunes français [Qui ?] découvrent en Californie le rêve américain. Epris de nouveauté et de liberté décomplexée, ils s’inspireront de leur voyage pour communiquer et transmettre ce style de vie à travers un certain code vestimentaire. Travaillant les matières, Jacques Jaunet, co-fondateur de la marque, cherchera toujours à innover. Les couleurs vont de pair et se font très seventies : rouge flamboyant, jaune soleil, rose chamallow. Tranchant avec les couleurs tristes et les coupes réglementaires, le slogan des années 70 affiche son envie de liberté : « La vie est trop courte pour s’habiller triste ! ».

En 1969, New Man crée Miniman et la marque s’exporte partout dans le monde. La société New Man possède sa propre équipe artistique et stylistique, ses modélistes et prototypistes et son laboratoire de tests pour traitement des matières et vêtements.

Dans les années 1970, New Man confie la réalisation de ses campagnes à Francis Dumoulin, rédacteur en chef du magazine Lui. Les campagnes les plus récentes ont fait appel aux photographes Alasdair Mac Lellan (de 2007 à l'été 2009), puis Karim Sadli.

Le sport automobile a toujours été important dans la communication de la marque. À l'hiver 1982, le champion des rallyes Bruno Saby participe au rallye de Monte-Carlo à bord d’une Renault 5 Turbo siglée New Man. Eté 1983, Paul Belmondo participe à une compétition en Formule 3 sponsorisée par New Man. La marque New Man est ensuite présente sur les Porsches conduites par Henri Pescarolo aux 24 Heures du Mans 1984 et 1985.

À la fin des années 1990, New Man devient partenaire de l’écurie française de Formule 1 Prost Grand Prix.[réf. souhaitée]
