Notre Dame Fighting Irish est un club omnisports universitaire de l'Université de Notre Dame. Les équipes des Fighting Irish participent aux compétitions universitaires organisées par la National Collegiate Athletic Association. ND fait partie de la division Big East Conference pour les sports sauf pour le football américain où les Fighting Irish évoluent en indépendant en Division 1-A de la NCAA.

Histoire
Selon le site officiel de l'Université de Notre Dame, les origines du surnom de l'équipe, Fighting Irish, ne sont pas clairement établies. Deux anecdotes sont évoquées. La première a lieu en 1899. Au début de la seconde mi-temps d'un match Notre Dame - Northwestern, les supporters adverses auraient entonné le chant suivant : « Kill the Fighting Irish, kill the Fighting Irish ». L'autre histoire se tient en 1909. Au cours d'un match Notre Dame - Michigan, un joueur aurait crié depuis la touche : « What's the matter with you guys? You're all Irish and you're not fighting worth a lick. » (qu'est ce qui vous arrive les gars? Vous êtes tous Irlandais et vous ne vous battez pas!). Très mal engagée, la partie est finalement remporté par Notre Dame et la presse titre le lendemain sur la victoire des « Fighting Irish ».
Notre Dame comprend une équipe de football américain depuis 1879 et évolue au plus haut niveau universitaire depuis lors. 13 titres de champion national et 7 Heisman Trophy ont notamment été remportés par les joueurs de Notre Dame.
L'équipe masculine de basket-ball a participé une fois au Final Four en 1978 tandis que l'équipe féminine a remporté le titre national en 2001.
L'équipe masculine de hockey sur glace évolue en Central Collegiate Hockey Association. Les hockeyeurs jouent leur matchs à domicile au Joyce Center Rink (2 667 places).
