Ofra Harnoy

Ofra Harnoy, née le 31 janvier 1965 à Hadera en Israël, est une violoncelliste canadienne.

Elle a émigré avec sa famille à Toronto en 1971. Dès l'âge de 6 ans, elle apprend le violoncelle avec son père, Jacob Harnoy. Elle eut ensuite des professeurs de haute renommée tels : Vladimir Orloff, William Pleeth, Pierre Fournier, Jacqueline du Pré, et Mstislav Rostropovitch.

Elle débuta sa carrière de soliste à l'âge de 10 ans. Et son premier concert public en solo fut donné au Carnegie Hall en 1982.

Elle a son actif le premier enregistrement mondial du Concerto Rondo pour violoncelle de Jacques Offenbach en 1983, ainsi que de nombreux concertos inédits de Vivaldi

Elle souhaita aussi donner une autre image de marque que celle de l'interprète classique, en adoptant des tenues assez proches de la musique rock. Ce trait de personnalité ne lui a pas valu que des amis dans ce milieu.

Très populaire au Canada, ses disques sont distribués en France par la firme RCA.
