Omri, en hébreu עָמְרִי, est un roi d'Israël, père d'Achab et fondateur de la dynastie des Omrides. Omri signifie "ma gerbe" (voir Omer).
Selon la Bible[1], Omri était d'abord général du roi Éla mais, ayant appris, pendant le siège de Gebbéthon, que Zimri venait d'assassiner ce prince et de s'emparer du royaume d'Israël, il se fit proclamer roi lui-même marcha contre l'usurpateur et l'obligea à se brûler dans son palais. Il eut encore un autre compétiteur, Thebui, qui lui disputa quatre ans la couronne, mais celui-ci ayant aussi été tué, Omri resta seul possesseur de la souveraineté. Il régna douze ans, qu'on situe entre -881 et -874[2].
Omri réside 6 ans à Tirtza, puis il bâtit Samarie et en fait sa capitale.
