La TurboExpress, un Tuner TV et quelques jeux
La PC-Engine GT (appelée TurboExpress aux États-Unis et aussi connue sous le nom Turbo GT) est une console portable fabriquée par NEC en 1991. Elle sort en France en janvier 1991 au prix de 2490 FF avec un jeu, puis passe d'un coup à seulement 1490 FF avec un jeu en novembre 1992.
Il s'agit en réalité d'une PC-Engine portable équipée d'un écran LCD couleur à matrice active de 6,6 centimetres (2,6 pouces), capable de jouer tous les jeux de la PC-Engine.
Elle resta longtemps la plus puissante des consoles portables avec la Lynx, loin devant la Game Boy et la Game Gear (handicapée par son écran moins performant en matrice passive).
Un module d'extension add-on pour la console était aussi vendu qui permettait de regarder la télévision, ou des images venues d'une caméra vidéo (via une entrée vidéo). La consommation de batteries était très importante. Un jeu de 6 piles R6 ne dépassait pas trois heures d'utilisation. Pour compenser ce handicap, la console s'éteint automatiquement si elle reste inutilisée pendant un certain temps et TTI commercialisa même de nombreux kits de piles rechargeables.
La PC-Engine GT n'a pas eu de succès, écrasée par celui de la Game Boy, console beaucoup plus simple, mais beaucoup moins chère à cette époque.
