Pearl Poet

Le Pearl Poet, ou Poète de Pearl, parfois aussi appelé Gawain Poet (Poète de Gauvain) est le nom donné à l'auteur des poèmes Pearl, Cleanness et Sire Gauvain et le Chevalier vert, sûrement écrits aux environs du XIVe siècle, en moyen anglais. On lui prête également parfois l'écriture de Saint Erkenwald. Tous ses travaux nous sont parvenus par l'unique intermédiaire du manuscrit Cotton Nero A.x., aujourd'hui conservé à la British Library.

Les experts l'identifient généralement aujourd'hui à John Massey, aristocrate du comté de Cheshire. Les doutes subsistent tout de même quant l'authenticité de ces affirmations.
