Démocrates progressistes

Les Démocrates progressistes (en anglais, Progressive Democrats, en irlandais, An Paírtí Daonlathach) sont un parti politique irlandais, libéral membre du parti ELDR.

Il a été fondé en 1985 par Desmond O'Malley et Mary Harney.

De 1997 à 2007, les Démocrates progressistes ont participé à la coalition gouvernementale avec le Fianna Fáil. Le parti avait deux membres du cabinet : Tanaiste et ministre pour la Santé et l'Enfance, Mary Harney, TD et le ministre de la Justice, de l'Égalité des chances et de la Réforme de la loi, Michael McDowell et également deux secrétaires d'État - Tom Parlon at the Department of Finance and Tim O'Malley at the Department of Health and Children. Avant les dernières élections, le groupe parlementaire du PD comprenait 13 membres Oireachtas - 8 députés (TDs) et 5 sénateurs (senators). Le scrutin de mai 2007 s'est soldé par une lourde défaite pour les Démocrates progressistes qui ont perdu 6 de leurs 8 députés.

Le sénateur Ciarán Cannon est le nouveau leader des Dp (2008).
