Le Project Management Body of Knowledge est le guide du Project Management Institute définissant les champs de connaissance couvrant la gestion de projet. Il sert de base de référence, pour établir les contenus de cours sur la gestion de projet et pour l'élaboration d'examen de certification.

Le Project Management Institute (PMI) publie le premier volume de Project Management Body of Knowledge sur papier en 1987 comme une tentative de documenter et standardiser les informations et les pratiques de la gestion de projet. La première édition est publiée en 1996 suivie par la seconde édition en 2000. En 2004, la troisième édition est publiée. Elle inclut des différences majeures avec la deuxième édition.

Puis un groupe international d'experts travaille sur l'écriture d'une quatrième édition, celle-ci paraît le 31 décembre 2008. Le PMI réalise la nécessité de modifier le PMBOK pour être cohérent avec les autres standards particulièrement Program, Portfolio, Organization Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3) et le standard Unified Project Management Lexicon.

Le contenu

Le PMBOK – Troisième édition est un standard reconnu internationalement (IEEE Std 1490-2003) qui fournit les fondamentaux de la gestion de projet s'appliquant à une large portée de projets incluant la construction, le logiciel, l'ingénierie et l'industrie, etc.
