Robert Monckton

Robert Monckton (24 juin 1726 - 21 mai 1782) fut un officier de l'armée britannique et un administrateur colonial en Amérique du Nord britannique (aujourd'hui le Canada). Monckton est connu pour son rôle pendant le Grand Dérangement, la déportation des Acadiens de la Nouvelle-Écosse. La ville de Moncton, à forte concentration acadienne, au Nouveau-Brunswick, est nommée en son honneur[1]. Ce choix reste controversé, le colonel Monckton ayant été mis en cause dans un acte de génocide à l'encontre du peuple acadien[2].
