Rollin' and Tumblin' est un blues enregistré pour la première fois en 1929 par Hambone Willie Newbern sous le titre Roll and Tumble Blues. Il est parfois considéré comme l'auteur des paroles.
Robert Johnson a également enregistré une version de la chanson en 1936, sous le titre If I Had Possession Over Judgment Day. La version la plus connue a été enregistrée en 1950 par Muddy Waters avec Big Crawford à la basse.
La chanson est l'un des grands standard du blues avec plus de soixante reprises dont celle d'Elmore James (1960), Cream (1966 - Fresh Cream), Johnny Winter (1968 - The Progressive Blues Experiment) , Canned Heat (1967), Blues Cretion (1969), Eric Clapton (1992 - Unplugged et 2004 - Me and Mr. Johnson), Jeff Beck (2000 - You Had It Coming), Grateful Dead l'a joué à deux reprises en 1995 (25 Juin 1995) et plus récemment par Bob Dylan (2006 - Modern Times).
