The Rooftop Singers est un groupe musical américain de musique folk qui se fit connaître au début des années 1960, principalement grâce à son tube "Walk Right In".[1]

Le groupe était composé d'Erik Darling, Bill Svanoe et Lynne Taylor.[1]

Darling créa le groupe en 1962 spécialement pour enregistrer une reprise d'une chanson blues folk de Gus Cannon ; "Walk Right In".[1]

Le trio enregistra ce titre pour Vanguard Records, avec des paroles et des arrangements musicaux remis au gout du jour, avec notamment une guitare acoustique à 12 cordes.[2] Le disque devint le plus gros succès dans l'histoire de Vanguard Records.[2]

Aux États-Unis, la chanson resta classé numéro 1 pendant deux semaines au Billboard Hot 100 chart au début de l'année 1963.[3] Il resta également 5 semaines au top du Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks[4]

Le groupe réalisa plusieurs singles sont leur deuxième grand succès, "Tom Cat", joué au Festival de folk de Newport en 1963. Ils réalisèrent trois albums mais leur popularité fut d'assez courte durée puisque le groupe se sépara en 1967.[2]
