Second impact

Le second impact est un événement imaginaire qui a lieu dans le manga Neon Genesis Evangelion.

En l'an 2000, quinze ans avant le début du manga, deux millions d'hommes sont morts dans une catastrophe dénommée le second impact. Officiellement imputé à une météorite, la vérité est tout autre.

Tout commença avec la découverte des manuscrits de la Mer Morte, qui prédisaient que l'évolution humaine allait atteindre ses limites. Sur l'indication de ces manuscrits, la Seele organisa alors une expédition au pôle Sud. Le père de Misato la dirigeait. C'est ainsi qu'au fin fond de l'Antarctique, on découvrit Adam, le premier ange. Les hommes venaient de trouver leur Dieu. Mais, ils essayèrent de le contrôler en le réduisant à sa forme d'embryon. Le Dieu ne se laissa pas faire. Possédant un système S2 lui procurant une source d'énergie infinie, il déclencha le second impact. Misato, alors une toute petite fille, fut la seule survivante de l'expédition.
