Speedo est une marque australienne fondée en 1914 par Alexander MacRae, un jeune écossais immigré en Australie en 1910. L'entreprise, localisée à Bondi Beach, à Sydney à tout d'abord fabriqué des sous-vêtements.
Aujourd'hui, l'entreprise est la filiale de Groupe Pentland et son siège social se trouve à Nottingham en Angleterre. Elle est désormais l'un des plus grands vendeurs de maillots de bain et de combinaisons de natation au monde.
Polémique
Depuis que Speedo a commercialisé en 2008 sa combinaison de natation Speedo LZR Racer, de nombreux records du monde ont été battus. Une polémique existe donc à ce sujet. La FINA a validé cette combinaison le 12 avril 2008, malgré la présence d'éléments favorisant la flottaison, principe théoriquement interdit par le règlement. Certains équipementiers concurrents ont déjà[Quand ?] annoncé pouvoir rivaliser avec la LZR Racer d'ici les Jeux olympiques de Pekin.
