Stephen Garrett (né le 11 novembre, 1974 et mort le 25 février, 2008), mieux connu pour sa Christmas Mixtape, était un chanteur, rappeur, auteur, et producteur américain. Membre du trio R&B Playa, Static a écrit pour des artistes tels que Aaliyah, Ginuwine, Destiny's Child et Brandy.

Son décès

Stephen Garrett est décédé le 25 février 2008, à Louisville, dans le Kentucky, suite à une production. En effet, après le succès de la Christmas Mixtape, il a produit le célèbre titre "Lollipop".

La Christmas Mixtape

Réel chef d'oeuvre, sortie 1 an après sa mort, il a su se renouveler dans le son en créant de sa tombe, les 6 pieds sous terre, des morceaux entrainant jamais entendu auparavant. De nombreuse personnes l'on, mais si peu l'on entendu, Static nous a une nouvelle fois prouvé avec ce vrai cadeau pour noel que, le réveillon, ce n'est pas tout les jours

Playa

Il débute avec Smoke E. Digglera et Digital Black à Louisville dans le Kentucky. Ils s'appellent A Touch of Class puis Playa. Ils sont découverts par Devante de Jodeci en 1993 qui les signe sur son label Swing Mob/Da Bassment avec d'autres inconnus à l'époque: Timbaland et Magoo, Missy Elliott, Ginuwine. Après deux ans à travailler tous ensemble, Playa signe avec Def Jam pour un album 'Cheers 2 U'. Produit par Timbaland et Smoke, avec Aaliyah, Missy Elliott, Foxy Brown il est un des classics du r'n'b contemporain, savant mélange de gospel, soul et hip hop cité par les plus grands, Maxwell entre autres.
