Le Village (The Village) est un thriller fantastique américain réalisé par M. Night Shyamalan, sorti en 2004, avec Joaquin Phoenix et Bryce Dallas Howard.

Synopsis

Ce qui suit dévoile des moments clés de l’intrigue.

Une petite communauté isolée vit dans la terrifiante certitude qu'une race de créatures mythiques peuple les bois entourant le village : "ceux dont on ne parle pas". Cette force maléfique est si menaçante que personne n'ose s'aventurer au-delà des dernières maisons, et encore moins pénétrer dans les bois... Le jeune Lucius Hunt, un garçon entêté, est cependant bien décidé à aller voir ce qui se cache par-delà des limites du village, et son audace menace de changer à jamais l'avenir de tous. Mais quand Noah, qui est autiste, tente de l'assassiner c'est à Ivy Walker une jeune aveugle éperdument amoureuse de Lucius, que revient cette mission dangereuse...

L'histoire rappelle fortement celle du roman de 1977 Un trou dans le grillage de l'écrivain français François Sautereau, dans lequel Grison, petit garçon d'une dizaine d'années, vit dans un village aux mœurs d'antan. Il s'avère en fait que ce village est situé dans une sorte de réserve privée d'une centaine de kilomètres carrés dans un monde bien plus avancé technologiquement, réserve financée en réalité par son richissime grand-père mourant afin de préserver sa fille et son petit-fils d'un monde devenu violent et pollué.
