Tycoon est un mot anglais dérivé du mot japonais taikun (大君)[note 1] signifiant « grand homme » ou « prince », le terme est lui-même d'origine chinoise.

  • En anglais, tycoon signifie « magnat » ou homme d'affaires prospère (appelé autrefois également nabab).
  • Tycoon est l'adaptation en anglais par Tim Rice de l'opéra rock Starmania de Michel Berger et Luc Plamondon. Elle ne sera jamais montée en territoire anglophone, mais jouée au théâtre Mogador par la troupe française tous les vendredis soirs de la saison 1993-1994 de Starmania.
  • Tycoon ou ticoune en français est une expression québécoise qui est une insulte envers un homme pour signifier que l'on pense qu'il est simple d'esprit ou petit.
