Uji (宇治市, Uji-shi?) est une ville du Japon située au sud de Kyōto dans la préfecture de Kyōto. En 2010, Uji a une population estimée à 189 526 habitants, ce qui en fait la plus grande ville de la préfecture après la ville de Kyōto. Uji couvre un territoire de 67,55 km², ce qui lui fait une densité de population de 2 810 habitants/km²

La ville se trouve sur la rivière Uji (Ujigawa), qui prend sa source dans le lac Biwa. Au IVe siècle, le fils de l'empereur Ōjin fit construire un palais à Uji.

Uji est célèbre au Japon pour de multiples raisons :

  • c'est la ville où est situé le temple du Byōdō-in ;
  • le pont Ujibashi, qui enjambe la rivière, construit par Dōchō en 647 puis reconstruit au IXe siècle, fut le lieu de plusieurs batailles à la fin du XIIe siècle et au début du XIIIe siècle (voir Bataille d'Uji) ;
  • Uji est également fameuse pour son thé vert ;
  • on y trouve le barrage d'Amagase (天ヶ瀬ダム, Amagase-damu?) sur la Yodo-gawa (淀川?).
