Walter Chauncey Camp (7 avril 1859 - 14 mars 1925) fut l'un des pères fondateur du football américain moderne et entraîneur. Aux États-Unis il est considéré comme le père du football américain (Father of American Football). Il a beaucoup écrit sur ce sport, en codifiant les règles, notamment en se démarquant du rugby par l'introduction de la ligne de mêlée ou encore par la définition des touchés. D'abord, 3 essais pour franchir 5 verges, puis 4 essais pour 10 verges en 1912. Camp a défini les alignements, avec l'obligation d'aligner 7 joueurs sur la première ligne pour l'équipe offensive.
