Wang Yuanqi
Paysage fluvial à la manière de Ni Tsan
Wang Yuanqi (1642-1715) était un peintre chinois du début de la dynastie Qing faisant partie de l'école orthodoxe du paysage. Il fait partie du groupe appelé "les quatre Wang". Il est d'ailleurs le petit-fils de Wang Shimin.
Ayant étudié les peintres classiques et appris à peindre, il choisit toutefois d'entrer dans l'administration en 1669. Il devint fonctionnaire à la Cour en 1700.
Cela ne l'empêcha pas de continuer à peindre. Il peignit parfois pour l'empereur lui-même.
Son style fut influencé par ceux de Wang Shimin et de Huang Gongwang. Toutefois, il créa une technique originale en mélangeant de faibles quantités de peinture colorée à l'encre de Chine, avec pour résultat des œuvres délicatement colorées.
Wang Yuanqi est lui-même la figure principale d'une œuvre de Yu Zhiding, Wang Yuanqi cultivant des chrysanthèmes. Ce rouleau le montre comme un haut fonctionnaire arrivé.
Il mourut à Beijing à 73 ans.
