Softimage®|XSI® est un logiciel de modélisation 3D professionnel conçu à Montréal, endroit où la compagnie éponyme fut fondée en 1986 par Daniel Langlois. La compagnie a été acquise par Microsoft en 1994 puis par Avid Technology inc., un leader dans le monde de l'édition vidéo, en 1998. Le 23 octobre 2008, Autodesk a annoncé son rachat pour 35 millions de dollars.[1]

La plus récente version de Softimage à ce jour est la version XSI 7.01. Ce logiciel a été utilisé pour créer les jeux vidéo Half-Life 2, Prince of Persia : les Sables du temps et Resident Evil 4. La version professionnelle du logiciel est très onéreuse mais il est aussi possible de se procurer gratuitement une version d'essai fonctionnant pendant un mois.
