Yechiva

Une yechivah, ou yeshivah (en hébreu: ישיבה, yechivot au pluriel) est un centre d'étude de la Torah et du Talmud dans le judaïsme orthodoxe. Chaque yeshiva est généralement dirigé par un rabbin, appelé "Roch Yechivah" (littéralement "tête de yechivah"). L'enseignement y est généralement destiné aux hommes exclusivement.

Les étudiants des yechivot apprennent une méthode de lecture propre à l'enseignement rabbinique[réf. nécessaire].

Histoire

Un bâtiment identifié comme étant une yechiva fut bâti à Rouen vers 1100[1].
Il y a encore aujourd'hui en France des Yeshivot en activité, en particulier, par exemple la Yechiva Tomhei Temimim Loubavitch (ישיבת תומכי-תמימים ליובאוויטש) de Brunoy dans l'Essonne (91), la "Yechiva d'Aix-les-Bains", ou la Yeshiva Yad Mordechai, 13, Rue Pavée à Paris (Métro "St Paul") .

L'une des principales Yeshivot en France est celle d'Aix-les-Bains, en Savoie (50, montée de la Reine Victoria 73100 Aix-les-Bains). Cette yeshiva a d'abord été établie par Ernest Nathan WEILL à Strasbourg entre 1933 et 1939, puis à Aix-les-Bains depuis 1945.
