Young Vivian

Mititaigimimene Young Vivian (né en 1935) est un homme politique niuéen.

Il occupa la fonction de Premier ministre de transition du 12 décembre 1992 au 9 mars 1993, suite au décès de Robert Rex. Il fut ensuite élu Premier ministre en mai 2002, et réélu en 2005.

En 2008, Vivian s'inscrivit candidat aux élections législatives de juin. Le 23 mai, à la clôture des inscriptions, il n'y avait pas d'autre candidat dans sa circonscription, et il fut donc reconduit par défaut à son siège de député[1]. Il brigua alors un nouveau mandat au poste de Premier ministre, mais fut battu lorsque les députés élurent Toke Talagi, avec quatorze voix contre cinq pour Vivian, et une absention[2].

Il fut également ministre des Finances du 12 mai 2005 à juin 2008.

Aux élections législatives de mai 2011, il fut à nouveau candidat dans sa circonscription-village de Hakupu. Cette fois, il eut un adversaire, le journaliste et ancien député Michael Jackson. Vivian obtint 33 voix, soit 53,23 % des suffrages, devançant Jackson de quatre voix pour conserver son siège[3],[4]. Il ne brigua pas le poste de premier ministre[5].
