Edward George Farhat (né le 9 juin 1926 - mort le 18 janvier 2003) était un catcheur professionnel et un ancien soldat américain d'origine arabo-libanaise mieux connu sous son nom de ring The Sheik (ou The Original Sheik, pour être distingué de The Iron Sheik). Il était propriétaire et actionnaire de la Big Time Wrestling, l'une des plus grandes fédérations de catch des années 60. Il fut également l'un des initiateurs de ce qui est aujourd'hui le catch hardcore, et l'oncle de Sabu, la légende de la ECW.

Il était un farouche partisan du kayfabe, allant même jusqu'à lancer des objets enflammés aux fans qui le reconnaissaient dans la rue afin de conserver l'illusion de son personnage même en dehors des rings. Il conservait même le kayfabe au sein de sa famille: il demandait à ses petits-enfants de l'appeler "Papi Sheik". En outre, Sabu a déclaré que lors des appels téléphoniques destinés à Edward Farhat (son vrai nom), The Sheik demandait à sa femme de raccrocher en pretextant que personne de son nom ne vivait dans cette maison.

Il a également entrainé plusieurs catcheurs célèbres, notamment son neuveu Sabu, Raven, Greg Valentine et Rob Van Dam. Ce dernier déclara dans une interview que The Sheik lui avait un jour appris "Protège le business, et protège ensuite ton adversaire".
