John Speed (1552 — 28 juillet 1629) est un historien et cartographe anglais.

Né à Farndon, dans le Cheshire, il est issu d'une famille de tisserands. Passionné d'histoire, il attire l'attention de Fulke Greville. Grâce à lui, Speed peut se consacrer entièrement à sa passion. Son atlas The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine, paru en 1610-1611 (gravure de Jodocus Hondius), est notable par la présence de plans détaillés des principales villes de Grande-Bretagne. Peu avant sa mort, il publie A Prospect of the Most Famous Parts of the World, le premier atlas mondial établi par un Anglais.

Il est inhumé à l'église St Giles-without-Cripplegate de Londres.
