The Gods est un groupe britannique formé en 1965. Les membres originaux étaient Mick Taylor (plus tard avec John Mayall's Bluesbreakers et The Rolling Stones), Brian Glascock, et son frère John (plus tard avec Jethro Tull).

Carrière

Ils ont été camarades à Hatfield et avaient joué ensemble comme Les Juniors (ou The Strangers), un groupe qu'ils ont formé en 1962. Malcolm Collins et Àlan Shacklock ont également fait partie de ce groupe. Ils ont finalement signé avec EMI/Columbia Records. Leur premier 7 single (Columbia DB7339) est apparu en 1964 (There's a Pretty Girl/Pocket Size). En 1965, Mick Taylor a continué à jouer de la guitare et fait équipe avec Ken Hensley (orgue / chant) (plus tard, guitariste avec Uriah Heep). Ils ont également ajouté Joe Konas (guitare / chant) et changé leur nom pour The Gods. En 1966, The Gods ont fait la première partie de Cream à la salle de bal Starlite à Wembley, à Londres.

Un single a été enregistrée début 1967 (Come On Down To My Boat Bébé / Garage Man). À ce moment le groupe inclus Mick Taylor, Ken Hensley, John Glascock, Brian et Lee Kerslake Glascock. En mai 1967, Mick Taylor a reçu un appel de John Mayall qui était à la recherche d'un nouveau guitariste pour remplacer Peter Green. Lorsque Taylor rejoint les Bluesbreakers, il laisse derrière lui un Bluesband chancelant. Le groupe a cherché à faire revivre leur fortune sur le circuit club/collège.

Ils ont déménagé à Londres et ont obtenu une résidence au Marquee. John Glascock (basse) a été remplacé par Greg Lake en Juin 1967. Greg Lake était trop talentueux pour le rôle d'arrière-plan le reste du groupe et en été 1968, il rejoint King Crimson. Le groupe se reformait et John Glascock a demandé de revenir. Àvec John Glascock de retour au bercail ils ont enregistré quelques albums de rock progressif et quelques singles. De leurs singles, Hey! Bulldog, la piste des Beatles, est le plus connu, et les deux côtés ont été inclus sur l'album compilation, The Great British voyage psychédélique vol. 3. Le groupe a joué un amalgame de psychédélisme et de progressisme. Des titres comme Towards The Skies et Time Ànd Eternity de leur album Genesis sorti en 1968, sont pleins de lourds labours d'orgue Hammond et de riffs de guitare avec le chant déformé et plutôt dramatique de Ken Hensley.

La plupart des morceaux des The Gods est assez typique fin des années 1960 pop/rock, incarné par des chansons comme Radio Show et Yes, I Cry. Il ya des nuances de Vanilla Fudge sur leur couverture de l'extrait de West Side Story Maria. Sur quelques titres comme Chandelles et Real Love garanti il ya une petite idée du son lourd Hensley et Kerslake qui se propagerait dans leur prochaine aventure, Uriah Heep.

The Gods étaient les successeurs des Rolling Stones au Marquee Club de Londres.

Après l'enregistrement de deux albums, Genesis (1968) et To Samuel À Son (1969), ils ont signé avec une société d'enregistrement de nouveaux, recrutés par Rebel Resours et leur chanteur Cliff Bennett, ils ont changé leur nom pour les Toe Fat, qui a également duré deux ans et deux albums.
