Birt Acres

Birt Acres est un réalisateur, directeur de la photographie, producteur et inventeur américain né le 23 juillet 1854 à Richmond, en Virginie, et décédé le décembre 1918.

Biographie

Né aux États-Unis de parents anglais, Birt Acres se retrouve orphelin pendant la guerre de Sécession. Il part alors en Angleterre où il se fait embaucher dans une fabrique de matériel photographique, la Royal Photographic Society. En 1893, il invente un appareil muni de plaques à exposition rapide avec lequel il photographie les nuages passant lentement dans le ciel. En 1894, il invente un projecteur et une caméra. En 1895, il dépose ujn brevet pour son kineopticon, une autre caméra aussi utilisable comme projecteur. La même année, il filme des événements tels que le Derby en Angleterre ou l'ouverture du canal de Kiel en Allemagne. Se positionnant dès lors comme pionnier du cinéma anglais, il s'intéresse davantage à l'invention scientifique qu'au spectacle. Il continua jusqu'à la fin de ses jours à expérimenter de nouvelles techniques de prises de vues et d'enregistrement du son[1].
