Bob Scheifler

Robert William Scheifler (né en 1954) est un informaticien. Il est connu pour avoir dirigé le développement du X Window System depuis ses débuts en 1984 jusqu'à la fermeture du Consortium X du MIT en 1996. Il est ensuite devenu l'un des architectes de Jini chez Sun Microsystems.

Il a déclaré que son but en développant X était d'améliorer la compétition en matière de système de fenêtrage pour l'ensemble du marché. Malgré son adoption rapide par des acteurs commerciaux ayant développé des extensions propriétaires, X est devenu un standard ouvert. C'est une part importante de Linux jusqu'à aujourd'hui.

Scheifler possède un Bachelor of Science en Mathématiques et un Master of Science en Informatique obtenus au M.I.T..
