Cameahwait, chef Shoshone était le frère de Sacagawea. Il était à la tête du premier groupe à avoir rencontré des européens dans l'actuel Idaho.
Pour les indiens Shoshone Cameahwait et Sacagawea étaient frère et sœur. Dans la langue shoshone, cousin et frère sont un seul mot. C'est pourquoi on ne sait actuellement s'ils étaient réellement frère et sœur[1]. Cameahwait a offert des chevaux à Lewis et Clark pour leur avoir permis de retrouver sa sœur perdue de vue depuis longtemps. Sacagawea avait été knidnapée à l'âge de 12 ans par la tribu des indians Hidatsa. Elle et son amie Naya Nukiavaient avaient été utilisées comme esclaves puis vendues à Toussaint Charbonneau, un trappeur franco-canadien. Cameahwait et Charbonneau ont accompagné Lewis et Clark dans leur expedition vers l'ouest.
