Le club sandwich est un sandwich composé la plupart du temps de deux étages de garniture, séparé par des tranches de pain. Il est normalement coupé en quartiers, qui sont disposés à la verticale, la pointe vers le haut, et retenus par des cure-dents.
Les ingrédients traditionnels du club sandwich sont le filet de dinde, le bacon, la laitue émincée et la tomate tranchée. Ce sandwich est normalement servi sur pain grillé et accompagné de mayonnaise et de frites. Du jambon peut se substituer au bacon ou s'y ajouter et de la même façon, on peut remplacer la dinde par du poulet. Au Québec, la version commune du club sandwich contient d'ailleurs du poulet plutôt que de la dinde. On peut aussi y retrouver des tranches de fromage à pâte dure, principalement du cheddar ou du fromage suisse.
Le club sandwich aurait été inventé dans un club de pari huppé, le Saratoga Club-House de Saratoga Springs, New York au XIXe siècle[1].
