Dans l'univers fictionnel de Dune, les Cogitors et Cogitrices sont des hommes et des femmes ayant choisi d'abandonner leur existence mortelle et leurs corps afin de devenir de purs cerveaux protégés par de l'électrafluide. Ainsi libérés du monde physique et de la mortalité, les Cogitors se tournent vers leur réflexion et peuvent s'y plonger pendant des siècles.
Leur longue existence orientées vers la pensée pure en font des sages, mais leur font également oublier la réalité. Cet éloignement du monde réel sera mis en lumière lors de l'affrontement avec les machines pensantes. Les Cogitors, causant involontairement la menace des Titans, refuseront longtemps d'entrer dans le conflit aux côtés des forces de l'humanité. Leur obstination à rester neutre causera leur perte sur le monde glacé d'Hessra qui leur servait d'abri.
