Crematory est un groupe allemand de death metal/gothic metal/metal industriel formé à Westhofen en 1991. Ils ont commencé leur carrière en tant que groupe de Death / Doom metal et ont vite évolué vers un style gothique tout en gardant certains éléments Doom-Death spécifiques.

A partir de l'album Act Seven(1999), ils se sont progressivement orientés vers des structures plus électroniques/ambiant/indus. Touche qui au fur et à mesure prit de plus en plus de place dans leur musique.

Ils se sont séparés en 2001 mais se sont finalement reformés en 2003 grâce à une initiative de Nuclear Blast. Après que l'album Revolution, qui était leur premier et plus grand succès commercial grâce à une promotion développée par Nuclear Blast et trois singles, ainsi qu'un album live qui accompagnait le nouvel album et sa tournée, s'était plus orienté vers le genre électronique, les albums suivants, maintenant sous la tutelle de Massacre Records, ont diminué cette influence et s'orientaient plus aux premiers albums du groupe.

À part du nouvel album Infinity, qui sera publié en février 2010, le groupe célèbre son vingtième anniversaire avec la sortie d'une compilation qui inclut aussi un DVD avec tous les vidéoclips et des matériaux supplémentaires.
