Cæruléum est un bleu azur tirant sur le bleu ciel.

Il est connu aussi sous les noms de bleu céruléen ou de bleu céleste.

Composition

Pigment Bleu Céruléum PB35

Le bleu de céruléum (PB35) est un stannate de cobalt (oxyde de cobalt et d’étain), découvert en 1805 par le scientifique allemand Andreas Höpfner mais commercialisé en peinture à partir de 1860 seulement par George Rowney (Royaume-Uni) qui lui donna le nom de cœruleum, habituellement orthographié aujourd’hui céruléum.

Dans les nuanciers de couleurs à peindre, le pigment PB35 est de plus en plus remplacé par le PB36 (oxyde de chrome et cobalt), moins cher et plus turquoise.

Caractéristiques

Il s’agit d’un bleu très opaque et très couvrant.
