David Albahari

David Albahari est un écrivain serbe né à Peć au Kosovo en 1948, dans une famille juive dont la langue pratiquée était le serbo-croate. Il vécut plus tard à Zemun près de Belgrade.

Après des études de langue et de littérature anglo-américaine, il débute dès 1973 (à 15 ans) une carrière d’écrivain et se fait connaître grâce à des nouvelles « post-modernes » à la manière de Danilo Kiš.

Fuyant son pays en 1994, il réside désormais au Canada, à Calgary, où il continue à écrire en serbe. Il a publié huit romans et huit recueils de nouvelles, dont certains sont traduits en une quinzaine de langues. David Albahari a par ailleurs traduit les œuvres de nombreux auteurs anglophones dans sa langue maternelle. Il est l’un des écrivains serbes les plus réputé de sa génération. Son roman La Description de la mort a obtenu le Prix Ivo Andrić en 1983.
