Ol' Dirty Bastard, (au civil Russell Tyrone Jones), né le 15 novembre 1968 à Brooklyn et décédé le 13 novembre 2004 à New York, fut un rappeur américain membre du groupe Wu-Tang Clan.

Biographie

Né dans une famille de huit enfants. Il est le cousin du prince Rakeem (RZA) et de GZA, soit le trio fondateur du Wu-Tang.

ODB passe du temps en prison, ce qui ralentit son rythme de production artistique. Il sort un album en 1995, Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version. Il collabore avec Pras Michel ("Ghetto Supastar") et avec Mariah Carey ("Fantasy (Remix)"). Durant son dernier séjour en prison, la compagnie de disque Elektra mettra fin à son contrat et il signera avec une compagnie indépendante qui mettra sur le marché un album dont ODB ne savait même pas l'existence en 2002.

En 2001, il avait participé, sur un morceau, à l'album hommage à Phil Collins, Urban Renewal.

À sa sortie de prison en 2003, Damon Dash, le copropriétaire de Roc-A-Fella Records, signe ODB. À ce moment ODB prend le pseudonyme de Dirt McGirt et planifie de retourner en studio avec l'intention de présenter un album pour le début de 2005. Le tout avec des collaborations de grandes stars du rap telles que Ludacris, The Neptunes, Kanye West et les membres de Wu-Tang Clan. D'après le magazine US Symphonie ODB serait avec 2pac et Notorious Big les rappeurs du siècle après sa mort ses ventes d'album s'élevaient à plus de 56 Millions dans le monde et plus de 27 aux USA.

Le samedi 13 novembre 2004, après s'être plaint de douleurs à la poitrine, Ol' Dirty Bastard est victime d'une crise cardiaque dans un studio d'enregistrement. Les secours ne parvinrent pas à le réanimer. Selon les médecins légistes, Ol' Dirty Bastard est décédé à cause d'un mélange de cocaïne et d'un puissant anti-douleur opioïde, le Tramadol.^{[réf. nécessaire]} Le rappeur aurait subi une surdose de ces 2 substances, ce qui aurait causé les douleurs à la poitrine dont il s'était plaint, puis la mort.
