Perturbation (roman)
Perturbation (Verstörung) est un roman de Thomas Bernhard paru en 1967. Avec cette œuvre Bernhard consolida sa notoriété en Autriche et en Allemagne et commença à être traduit à l'étranger.
Le roman est structuré en deux parties. Il se situe à l'époque de sa parution dans une région des alpes Autrichiennes. Le narrateur, un jeune homme de 21 ans, accompagne son père médecin dans sa tournée quotidienne. L'effroyable galerie de portraits déchirés qu'il découvre l'amène à considérer l'humain comme en proie a une "perturbation (Verstörung) intrinsèque, le plongeant inexorablement dans les ténèbres. La seconde partie est un monologue d'un patient particulier de son père, le prince Saurau, un aristocrate illuminé vivant dans un château inquiétant. Le personnage de Saurau est une figure classique de l'oeuvre de Bernhard, l'Autrichien mûr, cultivé, exprimant avec une remarquable férocité son aversion pour son pays et ses contemporains.
Le livre a été édité en français chez Gallimard en 1989 (ISBN 2070709078).
