Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI) est une firme informatique basée à Redlands en Californie, qui est l'inventeur du concept des logiciels SIG. ESRI développe une gamme complète de logiciels SIG depuis 1969.

ESRI est solidement implanté aux Etats-Unis et dans le monde entier via un important réseau de distributeurs : la société revendique un million d'utilisateurs dans plus de 200 pays.
Selon l'analyste Daratech 2006,ESRI est le leader mondial du marché des logiciels SIG, suivi de Bentley et Intergraph ce qui en fait un acteur majeur de la géomatique et des SIG.

Son fondateur et président est Jack Dangermond.

En France, ESRI Inc. est représenté par la société ESRI France fondée en 1988 par Rony Gal, distributeur exclusif des logiciels ESRI.

Produits

Les principaux produits de la gamme ESRI sont :

  • ArcGIS : Le plus populaire des produits de la gamme. Logiciel de bureautique (Desktop). Disponible en différents niveaux de licence (ArcReader (gratuit), ArcView, ArcEditor et ArcInfo) avec différents modules complémentaires spécifiques (environ 15 extensions). ArcGIS est l'évolution des célèbres produits Arc/Info et ArcView, de la même compagnie.
  • ArcIMS : Serveur cartographique Internet.
  • ArcSDE : Serveur de données spatiales.
  • ArcGIS Serveur : Plate-forme permettant de développer des services Web et un SIG d'entreprise.
  • ArcLogistics : Progiciel packagé destiné à des applications de logistiques, de calculs d'itinéraires de tournées et de gestion de flottes de véhicules.
  • ArcLogistics Navigator : Outil de visualisation pour la navigation embarquée.
  • ArcGIS Explorer : Visualisateur et navigateur spatial gratuit, présenté sous forme de globe.

A l'été 2008, ESRI a sorti pour l'ensemble de sa gamme, la version 9.3.
