Fondée le 10 mars 2001, la Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) est une organisation à but non lucratif. En tant qu'organisation-sœur distincte de la Free Software Foundation aux États-Unis, elle milite pour le logiciel libre en Europe et aux Nations-Unies. La FSFE fournit également un centre de compétences aux politiciens, juristes, et journalistes, dans le but d'assurer l'avenir légal, politique et social du logiciel libre.
Elle a pour président Karsten Gerloff, et pour vice-président Fernanda Weiden. Son président-fondateur est Georg Greve.
Projets
La fondation soutient en 2009 l'utilisation de lecteurs de fichiers PDF libres[1]. La campagne se poursuit en 2010 sous la forme d'une pétition[2] pour promouvoir ces logiciels libres auprès des gouvernements et des administrations.
