Airman

Airman est un roman de l'écrivain Eoin Colfer, qui à notamment écrit la série des Artemis Fowl

Le livre est sorti, en 2008, aux éditions Penguin Group pour la version anglaise et aux éditions Gallimard Jeunesse pour la version française.

Synopsis

Le livre commence avec l'Exposition universelle de Paris de 1878, où Declan Broekhart et son épouse sont présents. Ils sont là principalement pour voir un nouveau ballon à air chaud. Alors qu'ils sont dans l'air, avec Victor Vigny, le ballon est abattu par des hommes à partir du sol. Au cours de l'atterrissage forcé, Conor Broekhart est né, volant au-dessus de Paris. Dans les années 1890, Conor et sa famille vivent sur les îles Saline, au large des côtes irlandaises, qui sont régies par le roi Nicholas Trudeau. La passion de ce roi est d'aider les îles à adapter le monde industrialisé. Dans un incendie accidentel, Conor est pris au piège sur le toît de la tour, il se sauve ainsi qu'Isabella (fille du roi Nicholas), par une voile de fortune qu'il utilise pour descendre de la tour. Après cela, le roi Nicholas donne le titre de Sir au jeune Conor pour sa bravoure. Le petit Conor grandit, et suit l'enseignement de Victor Vigny, cher ami français du roi Nicholas (Surnommé le bon roi Nick). Il apprend l'escrime, et se concentre avec Victor à l'élaboration de planeurs et autres machines volantes. Un jour, après une mauvaise aventure avec la princesse Isabella, Conor se réfugie dans son havre de paix, le parapet depuis lequel il a sauté avec son cerf-volant improvisé. En revenant, il tombe sur le maréchal Bonvilain, armé du pistolet personnel du Français . Conor assiste à la mort du roi et de Victor, puis est capturé par le maréchal. S'ensuit une période difficile pour le jeune garçon. Il est envoyé dans la prison de la Petite Saline, ou il est contraint à extraire des diamants bruts. Il se fait tabasser par un nommé Otto Malarkey, chef des Béliers, un gang de brutes spécialisé dans le crime. Conor partage sa cellule avec Linus Hyver, un aveugle américain et mélomane. Peu après, l'Américain est relaché. Deux ans plus tard en 1894, Conor s'évade. Et il reussi
