Gerry and the Pacemakers

Gerry and the Pacemakers est un groupe de rock britannique, populaire dans les années 1960.

Il a été formé en 1959 autour de Gerry Marsden, avec son frère Fred Marsden (décédé en 2006), Les Chadwick et Arthur MacMahon, qui sera remplacé en 1961 par Les Maguire.

Le groupe a eu pour manager Brian Epstein.

Son premier succès est « How Do You Do It ? », en 1963. Le groupe enchaine ensuite de nombreux succès, tant en Angleterre qu'aux États-Unis. En revanche, il ne réussira jamais à s'imposer n France.

Il est connu en Angleterre et en Ecosse pour son titre You'll Never Walk Alone, hymne du Liverpool Football Club et du Celtic Glasgow, d'après la chanson écrite par Richard Rodgers et Oscar Hammerstein II pour leur comédie musicale Carousel en 1945.

Ils ont interprété originellement la chanson Ferry Cross The Mersey dont Gerry est l'auteur/compositeur. En 1989, Gerry rechante la chanson en compagnie de The Christians, Holly Johnson, Paul McCartney et Stock Aitken Waterman (Producteur de Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley etc...), pour venir en aide des victimes du désastre d'Hillsborough.
