Émirat de Haïl

L'Émirat Rachidi de Ha'il, parfois improprement dénommé « émirat du Djebel Chammar », fut fondé en 1835 et dura jusqu'à son annexion le 2 novembre 1921 par le sultanat (émirat avant le 22 août 1921) wahhabite du Nejd, dans le processus qui mena à la création en 1932 du Royaume d'Arabie saoudite. Aujourd'hui, Ha'il est une cité de 265 000 habitants (2005).

Histoire

Les al-Rachid étaient une des branches de la confédération bédouine des Chammars, dont l'aire de transhumance englobait tant le Nord de la péninsule arabique que l'Est des actuelles Jordanie et Syrie et l'Ouest de l'actuel Irak.

En 1887, le Nejd est occupé par l'Émirat de Hail, qui l'annexe en 1891 jusqu'à ce qu'Ibn Saoud le conquière le 15 janvier 1902. Le 2 novembre 1921, c'est au tour du Nejd d'occuper l'émirat de Ha'il, qui devient une région (également dénommée émirat) du nouveau Royaume d'Arabie saoudite en 1932.
