Halytch (en ukrainien : Галич) ou Galitch (en russe : Галич), est une ville de l'oblast d'Ivano-Frankivsk, en Ukraine. Elle est située sur le Dniestr, à 23 km au nord d'Ivano-Frankivsk. Sa population s'élève à 6 283 habitants en 2005.

Histoire

La ville a donné son nom au royaume historique de Halychyna (Galicia, en français Galicie), devenue une province de l'Ukraine actuelle. La ville de Halych fut la capitale du royaume jusqu'au début du XIVe siècle, quand le siège des princes locaux fut déplacé à Lviv. De 1340 à 1772, la province appartint à la Voïvodie ruthène. Après le premier partage de la Pologne, en 1772, la ville fut rattachée à l'Empire d'Autriche, puis d'Autriche-Hongrie.

Après la Première Guerre mondiale, la ville devint polonaise, puis soviétique après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, et ukrainienne depuis l'indépendance de ce pays.

Malgré son passé prestigieux, Halytch est aujourd'hui une petite ville. Elle a aussi compté des groupes religieux différenciés : Catholiques Orthodoxes d'Ukraine, Église grecque-catholique ukrainienne, Église catholique romaine en Ukraine, Juifs rabbanites, karaïtes.
