Ce gecko nocturne a une coloration grise parfois rosée avec des points sombres et se trouve sur les murs et les rochers. Les mâles peuvent pousser des clics sonores.

Il peut vivre environ cinq ans dans la nature.

Le nom de cette espèce vient du latin turicus, de Turquie, pays où l'on trouve (entre autres) ce reptile.

Répartition géographique

Cette espèce se rencontre dans les régions méditerranéennes mais aussi plus profondement dans les terres comme au Portugal, en Italie, en Grèce, à Malte, au Maroc, en Algérie, en Tunisie, en Égypte, en Israël, en Somalie, au Yemen, en Iran, en Iraq.
En France on la trouve dans les îles d'Hyères et sur un seul site de Toulon (Massacan)[1]. C'est une espèce très adaptable, qui voyage facilement (en particulier grâce à la résistance de ses œufs) et qui a colonisé d'autres pays comme les États-Unis (au sud), le Mexique, Cuba, Panama… mais aussi l'Inde, le Pakistan… Par contre, sensible aux pesticides, son aire de répartition est actuellement en recul.

Paramètres climatiques

Ces geckos vivent dans des climats méditerranéens, avec des étés chauds et des hivers généralement tempérés. Mais ils sont adaptables et se sont installés dans de nombreux pays avec des climats similaires (sud des États-Unis par exemple).

Élevage en captivité

Cet animal est présent dans de nombreux pays du pourtour méditerranéen, et est donc fréquemment protégé par les lois locales de ces pays (par exemple en France).

En captivité cet animal peut vivre jusqu'à dix ans.

C'est un insectivore qui consomme la plupart des insectes de taille adaptée (grillons, araignées

Bien que nocturne, ce reptile profite fréquemment du soleil et début et fin de journée afin de réguler sa température.
