Polymathe
Un polymathe (du grec polymathēs, πολυμαθής, voulant dire « connaissant, comprenant ou ayant appris en quantité », des racines πολυ- pour « beaucoup » et μαθ- pour « apprentissage ») est un individu aux connaissances variées et approfondies, en particulier des connaissances en art et en science. On dit parfois « homme d'esprit universel ».
Un polymathe excelle dans de nombreux domaines qui ne sont pas nécessairement reliés. Quelques exemples de polymathes célèbres : René Descartes, Benjamin Franklin, Léonard de Vinci, Nicolas Copernic, Thomas Jefferson, Alexandre de Humboldt, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Isaac Asimov, Henri Poincaré, John von Neumann, Richard Francis Burton, Arthur Schopenhauer, etc.
