IEEE 802.11n est un standard de transmission sans fil.
Présentation
La norme IEEE 802.11n (IEEE 802.11n-2009) doit permettre d'atteindre un débit théorique allant jusqu'à 600 Mbits/s dans la bande de fréquences des 2,4 GHz ou 5 GHz (en utilisant quatre flux multiplexés sur deux bandes de 20 MHz aggrégées). La norme a été ratifiée en septembre 2009[1]. Celle-ci constitue une amélioration par rapport aux standards IEEE 802.11a pour la bande de fréquences des 5 GHz, IEEE 802.11b et IEEE 802.11g pour la bande de fréquences des 2,4 GHz.
Amélioration par rapport aux normes IEEE 802.11a/b/g
La norme apporte des améliorations par rapport à IEEE 802.11a/b/g grâce aux technologies suivantes :
- MIMO qui permet d'utiliser, à la fois, plusieurs émissions spatiales et plusieurs antennes pour les récepteurs et émetteurs.
- Le regroupement des canaux radio permettant d'augmenter la bande passante (de canaux de 20 MHz on passe à un canal de 40 MHz).
- L'agrégation de paquets de données qui permet l'augmentation des débits.
