Le All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship est la principale compétition de hurling en Irlande. La compétition est organisée par la GAA. La compétition est aussi connue sous le nom de Guinness Championships suite au contrat de sponsoring finançant l'épreuve.

Elle se joue pendant l’été et sa finale a lieu traditionnellement le deuxième dimanche de septembre dans le stade de Croke Park à Dublin. Le prix reçu pour la victoire est la Liam McCarthy Cup.

Les équipes dominant ce championnat sont historiquement issues des provinces du Leinster et du Munster. Cork GAA, Kilkenny GAA et Tipperary GAA sont considérées comme les superpuissances du hurling.

Organisation de la compétition

Au milieu des années 1990 la GAA développa un nouveau système de qualification grâce auquel certaines équipes se verraient proposé une nouvelle chance de qualification après une élimination « prématurée ». En 1997, la première transformation du championnat intervint avec l’apparition de qui est communément la « porte de derrière » (Back door en anglais) c’est-à-dire un repêchage. Les équipes battues en finale des championnats régionaux du Munster et du Leinster se sont vu la possibilité de jouer un match de repêchage afin d’accéder quand même aux demi finales du All-Ireland. La finale du All-Ireland fut donc cette année là le remake de la finale du championnat du Munster (Clare battant pour la deuxième fois Tipperary).

Le nouveau système de repêchage fut étendu les années suivantes. A partir de 2005 deux finalistes des championnats régionaux du Leinster et du Munster sont d’office qualifiés pour les quart de finales. Huit autres équipes réparties en deux poules de 4 équipes s’affrontent pour déterminer les quatre autres quart de finalistes.
